Where the deer and the antelope play...

I'm glad to see that all of y'all that have posted seem to be having an awesome time. Here's my bit of an unorganized and rambling update: Jackson Hole is quite awesome. The office i'm working in is really homey (dogs and ping pong table) and I've also taken a job teaching tennis. Play/fun is definately a priority for everyone that lives here. I've been getting into the Tetons several times a week and surrounding national forest land the rest of the time. There's plenty of time after work (we're not allowed to stay past five) to fish/kayak/hike/go shooting/bike (road/mountain)/bbq/backcountry ski and snowboard/throw horseshoes/float down the creek every day. I'm living with six hella fun boys and a dog--i've always wanted a dog. (All the dogs here are big, healthy, and never on a leash...none of those philly ankle biting dogs in little purses here). Two of the boys are river guides which means free rafting and booze cruising whenever. We actually did a whitewater stretch last night after midnight through the canyon guided by moonlight...no headlights needed. I've also learned to dirt bike and have been fulfilling all of my motocross fantasies i never knew i had :)
I really hope this summer is somewhat representative of what 'real life' , outside the confines Meyerson, can be...because that would be sweeeeeeeeeeet.

Keep posting--I miss you guys
And to all you Australia-bound folk: Just one request--Bring back some Tim Tams!!!! I've been craving them for a couple of years now.

Jackson Lake Paddle
Wandering around the park..

Shout out to Maisie! sup- PPP!

check it out- (video & all)
Shannon already has it in the works (but with more red, orange, maroon, and tangerine). ;)

Not in Philly anymore...

After winding my way through the crusty and cold northeast- New York, Boston, New Hampshire, Maine and VT (where it was 40 degrees with snow in the mountains), I finally arrived in Richmond, VA-- THE SOUTH. Our neighborhood has Friday Night Porch Parties. The grocery store cashiers, postal workers and gas station attendants all give me a 'god bless, sweetie' on the way out the door. Two pimply-faced kids came to the house the other day with a message from Christ. It is about 98 and 110% humidity. Oh, also, there is a 40' statue of General Lee two blocks from my house. Yes, all my Southern stereotypes are being proven true. If anyone wants to come sip mint juleps on the veranda with me, y'all are welcome any time.

Hope everyone is doing well.

xo, Betty Sue

?? gothic

I'd call it spanish gothic, but it's best to leave nationality out of it.

Barcelona has been fine- the archives and bibliotecs are a bit of a mess (fyi- the cartographic institute WON'T mail contact prints for old aerials- so make sure you're in town for at least 21 days to allow for their pick-up in person).... the bookstores are helpful and they've enough online to compensate.

As for fieldwork, the agrarian countryside is being swallowed by vacation homes, garden stores, and office parks... it's just like new jersey but with more sun. (fyi again- there's this weird LA-esque yellow haze/smog that hangs over the mediterranean here- not reassuring at all.)

anyways- until berlin.

Summer in Seattle

Ahhh, Seattle. It is beautiful here. I've been told the summers are gorgeous, sunny and warm, but it's been a little chilly and a bit rainy. Not that I'm complaining. It's a hell of a lot better than hot, humid Philly. Gustafson Guthrie Nichol is pretty cool so far. They've got me doing fun and cool work, competitions, graphics, etc., absolutely NO Cad work!! Awesome. And I think I'll be mostly saved (unless I get a hankering for getting some CD experience [yeah, I'm picking up the lingo]) because the same day I started another dude started full time whose whole job is to do Cad stuff.

The office location is effin' sick. Right on the Sound. I look up and see ferries, container ships and the Olympic mountains right over the top of my monitor. Sometimes it's a little distracting...I finally got a day off over the weekend and was told not to miss the Solstice Day Parade, mainly because it's known for all the naked bikers. I overslept and had to walk so just headed to where the parade was supposed to end, Gasworks park. I figured I had missed it and knew the bikers didn't do the whole route anyway, but headed out to at least see the park. Turns out I managed to show up just in time to catch the show, and despite there being no bikers, there were still a lot of naked hippies. Fucking hippies. There was everything you'd expect, bands on floats, people from the land of Boxonia (where everything is made of boxes, of course) and a legalize marijuana dragon which appeared to be carried around by a bunch of naked old men underneath...

To top it all off, as I was getting ready to leave I noticed a Friends of Gasworks Park both next to an open gate. I inquired as to what was going on. 'They're giving tours of the fenced off area to raise awareness of the need to preserve the park.' Cool. I dig deeper. 'Yeah, I'm just volunteering with my mom and step-father... yada-yada-yada, so Richard is still trying to protect the park--' Excuse me!?! 'Richard Haag who designed the park, is giving tours for--' Yeah, I know who he is, lady, just give me a goddamn hardhat and sign me up.

Cool old dude. Funny. And old.

Hope everyone is having a great summer. My roommates are taking me hiking out at Snoqualmie Pass in the Cascades on Saturday. Gonna see some mountains, snow and glaciers, yee-haw!!

Almost forgot... Results for the competition I did with Keith and Julie came in. We didn't win. I think Walla Walla just didn't know how to handle something so cool and progressive. Or they didn't like it. I don't know. We did, however, get an honorable mention. Pbbbtttt! Whatevs. Your loss, Walla. You can check out our losing entry here. We all did some mad Rhino modeling, of course, and I did the rendering at the top of Board A (my first night render! what a bitch) and the bottom of Board B. Enjoy.

paris II

okay- so the city grew on me, maybe it was taking a weekend off.

maybe it was the juan gris, skateboarders, and the graffiti at the city museum of modern art.
(that said- the curators at the pompidou are on crack- althought i've seen alot of poorly curated stuff lately.)

maybe it was sophie calle's national pavilion - as one of the most interesting, engaging things to address the post-minimalist turn of documentary art, feminist art, and cindy sherman-esque construction of subject/object, distance and voyeurism... (a mid-week break at the biennale...) plus all this has led me to appreciate the work of t. trouve and her 'plodder' series.
so yeh- paris was fine...

of course if could also be the ritual address of my adorning crowds, gathered every morning on the steps to await my appearance on our balcony.

The Mother Country

So China (with la familia loui) was amazing. First, we visited the villages my grandparents were from. This is a pic of the house my mom's mom grew up in, outside of Kaiping, a city in southern China.
Then, we jetted over to Guilin, where we took a boat cruise down the Li River to Yangshuo, which is totally surrounded by these crazy limestone hills that are so picturesque, they are featured on the back of the 20 yuan bill.

From there, we went to Beijing, where among other activities, we sampled all kinds of yummy street food, and made obligatory visits to the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, and the Great Wall.

Next up was Shanghai. What I remember from there was that it was super hot, I got an amazing hour-long foot massage, and I generally stuffed myself with all kinds of dim sum delicacies.

Finally, we ended our trip in Hong Kong which has all these crazy skywalks between buildings, tons of super-luxury shopping (none of which i partook in on my student budget), and all these random outdoor escalators, which i fell in love with. Here's the HK skyline at night from across in Kowloon.

I'm back in sunny AZ right now where it was 112 degrees yesterday. Thinking of y'all wherever you are!

Just in case you may have forgotten...
