Not quite the setting for a brothel, eh Brad?

As I am about to embark on my journey to the landscapes of the Swiss Alps, I have one picture that indicates my destination...Rougemont, Switzerland! Apparently, this is the house I will be staying in with three other interns, one from Spain another from France, and the third is TBD. I'll be in a village of 900 people...maybe I can get a village group photo??? Of course, I'll do my best to publish on the blog, but we'll see what technology I will have access to while interning...

Until my next post, au revoir! (Yes, I am going to try and learn French, yet another romance language to put under my belt...)

philly folks- food! fun! bad art!

yo all, mostly those in town. ian and i are having a 'hump-day' dinner tomorrow night, if people want to show up 7-7:30-ish for fruit, faux cheese burritos and rice & beans.

and... [ drum-roll ]... later in the week, we're going to organize meeting somewhere vegan in chinatown and then head to first friday with a couple of architecture, english, and, perhaps (for intrigue) comp. lit. people. landscapees are more than welcome.

i'll keep ya posted as plans develop.

i really wanted to do a post about the weather and related u.k. taboid flurry, but it will have wait since i somehow (oh *so cleverly*) managed to upload this photo onto this site and thought i would share a little birthday love (sorry for self indulgence). my dad and his 'special friend' made me a cake, and its in the shape of a gdn i am working on. now i know that looks really beautiful, i am sure you are all stunned by the delicacy of form (form is so 20thcentury anyway...its all about shape now, non?) & sensitive representation of foliage......
..i took some sequential cross sections photos to really 'get you into the space', go on, get down and really look into it, make cora proud

well, tomorrow i go to scotland and soon will post a picture of the real gdn which perhaps looks less like a astro-turf ha-ha with a red satin skirt and a 'duckbill-platypus-like' section (dont put it past me).

Bier und Weisswürst!!!

These are some pictures of my second day at "work". We were celebrating some birthdays with beers and white sausages. We stayed until 2 am. Some people came back to work at 9 am, I went at 10 am and others never showed up!!!

Swiss Miss

in case Neshaminy is to humble to mention it... she's headed to Switzerland for the summer to work on some Icelandic park competition. Someday, when Bjork is in her posse, we'll fondly remember how she slummed with us.

the girl is a woman now

obviously, adam and kristi are a little better at this than i am. though they tell me i did wonderfully for my first time. i learned of camping's merits: campfires, boont amber ale, other misc treats, and waking up by jumping into the freezing waters of lake tahoe. i'd be up for another go at it. thanks to noah for the sleeping bag. who wants to camp this summer?

salty utah

after leaving our mark on the alien landscape of utah's salt fields, kristi and adam got quite rambunctious, which left me with no choice but to leave them in the pet area. eventually i got lonely driving by myself, and feared camping on my own would me disasterous. i turned back to get them, and luckliy they were quick to forgive my hasty actions.

From our lovely days in Mahopac and Beacon, NY

Just in case you were curious as to what we did at Todd's house...I don't have pictures of that, so you'll have to continue with your curiousity. I do have pictures from outside of Dia Beacon of the Robert Irwin designed landscape/garden. If you haven't been to Dia yet, it's a must see if you're into modern art. The day was overcast, perfect for our indoor excursion, and ended with a picnic and, of course, frisbee tossing. Todd's house was awesome, you'll have to take my word for it, and his parents are the most amiable people you can meet from Mahopac, NY.

there's no escaping from holmesburg

well- not so much happy tea in philly- but the building i'm working on at eastern state penitentiary has all the extra doors from holmesburg prison. which is to say, one can't quite escape from their past studios if they stay in philly. or, inversely and literally, anyone can escape from holmesburg since all the cell doors are sitting, rotting in eastern state. i'll be sure to post some creepy, pealing paint, 'stabilized ruin' photos, once i take them.

bolder boulder

our first stop in boulder was the teahouse, which had been built in some asian country ___-istan, and shipped here in pieces. it's a marvelous piece of architecture. we had some lovely tea, then went to explore the town. adam took us to tonic, an oxygen bar off of the main drag, pearl street. we had oxygen up our respective noses-adam and i chose "harmony" and megan opted for "the three wise men" we also tried jun, some crazy asian herbal stuff that made us feel really really good. adam went for the trifecta and topped it all off with a dose of kavakava. makes the tongue numb and made adam feel like he was in a wonderful place. then we went hiking up the boulder creek and into this red rocks trail where we had an absolutely amazing view of the town down below. alas, no one brought their camera up. walking around pearl street a bit more, we all tried on hats at the hat cart, but decided we were better off without making a purchase there. after having a lovely dinner at one of the microbrews with my aunt and uncle, we went back to adam's sister's friend's place outside of golden and passed into blissful sleep up in the mountains.

one small step for design

as per the usual use of my free-time, i've been reading and tracking down design on the web- so yesterday i found nasa's 70's archive of space-colony design. and i ask myself, 'why am i interested in landscape as we know it when, i could aid the imperial distribution of the species across space-scapes???' clearly, it is a far, far better thing that I might do, than I have ever done. alas- i am chronically tooo late in discovering my dreams (i really, really hope that the school programs have been discontinued- wasn't that money better spent on star-wars?). but for anyone else who wants to see how awesome (A W E S O M E!) it could be scheme-ing up new colonies go to: http://www.nas.nasa.gov/About/Education/SpaceSettlement/70sArt/art.html.

btw- anyone up for an oprah style design reading group (i need to debate about all this discouse i'm ingesting), just with more scarcasm, pointed criticism, and no heart-felt endings??? like all soft and cuddly and parasitic?? hmmmm....

I know this is a bit cheesy...

Well, I'm going to miss you all...especially my pod! I hope you all have fun-filled, yet relaxing summers. Maybe the blog thing won't work out too well (I've never ever used one of these blogger sites), but feel free to use it.
