paysage...

gay paris...

that said- i must be really, really spoiled. i'm not amazed by the metro. i'm not wow-ed by the momuments. things are beautiful and ugly, just as expected. it's rainier than anticipated, but other than that it's just another city. or maybe it's just my boredom with europe (although it is a bit better than berlin).

the edges- like sarcelles-locheres- are interesting. there's a really strange mix of bizarre 18th-19th century estate homes (big, victorian alp impulses), giant post-war projects and average detached homes (with fences and personal cctv- almost scarier than the projects- this obsession with private property).
and then at the edges egdes, in the forests and the fields, there are these informal communities- like all the areas of old forts and random buttes have trailer communities- which, just like the detached homes, have these high walls around them (corregated iron, sigh). but these mobile communities are totally off the map. so the french suburbs are like u.s. enclaves + mumbai with more space. great fun- totally sketchy (did i mention all these little country roads just stop and are filled with burnt-out old cars, random construction dumps, etc.- the projects are safer and squicky clean in comparison!)- and clearly its in need of a few landscape (r)urbanism proposals...
too bad i'd rather spend the weeks sipping expressos and reading original editions of french philosophy (they have all of deleuze's lectures from 62-99' collected!!) sigh- so little time and so many books and bos!
hope everyone else is doing as well.

My first post----take note, Shams

I feel a little self-conscious here, being my first post and all. I will keep this short, as I am not sure I am even doing this right. Just wanted to tell you all that I hope you have wonderful summers, and am looking forward to hearing about them (periodically). I just got cross country and am heading up to SF tomorrow. Time for some serious Mission burritos. Found some great old photos....enjoy! By the way...there are many more......

Due to the work in Tokyo, today is last day at home.
I went to castle park in neighboring city yesterday.

and the love continues...

thanks to all dinner clubbers for trudging out the WPhilly last night for assorted DiBruno fare and good company. I'll miss all of you this summer, and everyone is most definitely welcome in New York while I am there. Doug, Yadiel, Jeipi: I'm going to come find you in Europe while I am traveling around...

Happy Blog is back!!!

Hey guys!

The blog is back! and I'm so happy!! As most of you know I will be leaving to Berlin the last week of May, and I will be leaving for a long time (probably for a year). I have had some of the best times of my life with you guys, and I will miss you so so much. You got to keep this blog up otherwise I could fall into a deep depression not knowing from you guys while in Berlin.

All of you are welcome to visit me and stay at my place. I know Meg already planned to visit this summer. And others are planning a Thanksgiving break trip. It will be awesome to have a Thanksgiving dinner in Berlin with you guys!

When I come back a lot of you are going to be done and gone. So I will use this cyberspace to say thank you to all of you for such a wonderful time. I learned a lot from all. Keep up the spirit of the class. The most awesome of all!!!

Love you all!!

yadiel

PS: sorry for the early nostalgic moment. I know I will see you a few times before I leave.
Ohh! And thanks to all that came to Shannon's and mine Pre-BDay party... I'm still collecting stories from that night, since I don't quite remember all of it. Sorry if I fought you when leaving I just wanted to spend more time with you!!
