gay paris...
that said- i must be really, really spoiled. i'm not amazed by the metro. i'm not wow-ed by the momuments. things are beautiful and ugly, just as expected. it's rainier than anticipated, but other than that it's just another city. or maybe it's just my boredom with europe (although it is a bit better than berlin).
and then at the edges egdes, in the forests and the fields, there are these informal communities- like all the areas of old forts and random buttes have trailer communities- which, just like the detached homes, have these high walls around them (corregated iron, sigh). but these mobile communities are totally off the map. so the french suburbs are like u.s. enclaves + mumbai with more space. great fun- totally sketchy (did i mention all these little country roads just stop and are filled with burnt-out old cars, random construction dumps, etc.- the projects are safer and squicky clean in comparison!)- and clearly its in need of a few landscape (r)urbanism proposals...
too bad i'd rather spend the weeks sipping expressos and reading original editions of french philosophy (they have all of deleuze's lectures from 62-99' collected!!) sigh- so little time and so many books and bos!
hope everyone else is doing as well.
